Movie Review: Storm Quest (1987)The plot of the movie "Storm Quest" acts out in a medieval kind of world, in and around two cities: Ishtan, where males are simply not tolerated, and which is ruled by the tyrannic "High Judge". And Kimbia, in which the males are kept as slaves; so called "drones", except for the priviliged caste of harem "stallions" (and wether it's due to breeding or is because of whatever it is that's put in their food - to quote - "The drones can't think for themselves and the stallions only think of themselves"), which is ruled by the sadistic "Storm Queen" whose favourite pass-time is to step on the testicles of her male subjects, and drive a kind of fox hunt (The "Death Chase") on the third "caste" of males who live as outcasts in the forests outside the two cities. To spoil the surprise ending (so hastily skipt this sentence if you don't want to know that in advance), because parts of the movie then makes more sense; it turns out that the Storm Queen is actually a male who just pretend to be a woman. A characteristic feature of the world in which the movie plays out is that the women are very loosely dressed, which has presumably been required in order for anyone to be willing to spend the evidently very sparse budget from which the movie is made. But if you can live with that kind og thing the movie is worth a look, and its gender-political angle must be considered to be at least original. |
